Silverstone Driver Comments ... |
|
|
Bill: "I felt I drove well at Silverstone. The car was well balanced but we could have done with a little more speed overall. The early problem with the electrical system when Chris was driving was a real setback because I think we would have otherwise had a podium'.
Allen: "Silverstone was an interesting race for us. Chris did an excellent job in qualifying the car where he did, it shows how competitive we can be. That said, the Zytek was untouchable here, and we will have to think more about development and speed for next year if we are to get closer to them. We do know overall that we have consistency and reliability, usually, so a trouble-free run here would have netted a better finish I feel".
Chris: "I believe we could have done better, but the car was very good despite the loss of power I suffered in the early laps. Kumho did a great job with the tyres yet again, we can't fault their enthusiasm and development. I showed that we can be quick and run with at least RML, and in the race situation we are consistent. I just think today we were lacking overall pace and that was made worse by the bad luck, otherwise we would have had at elast a 3rd place finish". It has been a pleasure driving with Allen and Bill this year, and I hope we can work something out for next season too".

Alan's Reactions following Spa... |
| |
|
Timpany said: "It was a very bitty race. Chris made a fantastic start to put us second and things were looking very good at that point. When I got in the car I was able to close the gap to the leader by about 30 seconds before the electrical problem caused me to pit. After I rejoined there were a lot of safety car periods and twice it rained quite heavily when I was on slicks, but I was on the pace and very pleased with my lap times."

Catching-up with Chris.... |

Spa is an absolute gem of a sports car race and one every team wants to do well in. The circuit ranks in most drivers' top 3 favorites and the venue itself, nestling in the Ardennes hillside very close to the German border, is ideally suited for racing, despite a rather 'English-like' climate at times. Chris Buncombe certainly favors the Belgian venue and is looking forward to the 1000k race "Spa holds some nice memories for me. I've driven in the famous 24 Hours race in Touring cars and a Corvette C5R last year, and the track is wonderful. My father also raced here and I know he loved the place too".
The British driver has also been busy since the Le Mans win as he explained "A week after Le Mans I was invited to drive a Nissan 350Z Japanese GT car at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. Unfortunately the event was hit hard by bad weather, but being there was a lot of fun. I've spent the last few weeks training with Jenson (Button) and attending the British Grand Prix with him too. I've received a lot of contact from well-wishers and friends after Le Mans, and to be honest I'm still on cloud 9! The race I think has done a lot for my career and I consider myself lucky to be a part of the Binnie team, and to have helped them to win the race. I cannot thank Bill enough for his faith and trust in me".
A full Spa 1000k race preview will follow shortly.

Monza Podium - Driver Reactions.... |
| |
|
Team Principal Bill Binnie "We had a successful performance today in our first race of the year. While we had hoped for a top ten finish, our 3rd in class was our sixth podium out of the last seven races and we look forward to building on it in the coming races”.
He added “We could not be more pleased with our sponsorship from Kumho and we think our pace was excellent, and our tires performed brilliantly - we are really delighted with their performance. Chris Buncombe qualified the car and drove the first stint and he did a great job. This young man just continues to impress the team and all who watch and get to know him.
So we start the season with important points and we look forward to the next race at Valencia”.“That was a good race for us” commented Chris Buncombe. “Sometimes you need a little luck but we made our own here. The team worked hard all weekend and they alone deserved this podium. These points will become very valuable later in the season. This was my debut LMS race and it’s a great start for me. I’m extremely pleased with the outcome”.
