Le Mans - Binnie Triumph Again... |
|
We made it! Binnie Motorsports - 1st in P2 - by a 'Le Mans' country mile! bring it on!!
Well done to all the Binnie Boys - well deserved victory for all concerned. Congratulations are coming in from all over the globe, from friends and sponsors. A big thanks to Kumho for providing us with great tires and congrats to them-this is their best ever finish at Le Mans and we are pleased to bring that to them, and indeed all our sponsors - Carlisle Capital, Vanco, Chic Outlet Shopping (the first race for them, and a Le Mans win!), Click Culture, Red Hook, all our fans and everyone else who followed us. Thanks!
To wrap it up, because we sat out most of the final hour in the pit garage to be safe, and also because we had no radio contact with Chris, we ended up finishing 18th overall. we completed 317 laps and made 28 pit stops.
The race was won outright by Audi #1 - Pirro/Werner and Biela. GT1 spoils went to the #009 Aston Martin, and GT2 honours went to #15 Porsche IMSA Performance team. Well done to them too.

Fairly easy last 2 hours with very little drama for the car. Allen put in an excellent double stint, holding on to P3 after re-taking the Del Bello Courage. Chris is now lapping, in the midst of his 1st ever Le Mans stint. Weather has improved drastically-dry track and sun is out, and yes, it's 9pm! Currently Chris lapping in the 3.52's, 3 seconds faster than the chasing Del Bello car. Leading the class is Adrian Fernandez, now in the Lowes Zytek, heading up the Quifel Lola with Miguel de Castro behind the wheel.

Thursday Qualifying and final Grid position … |
| |
The 4 hours of running last evening were engulfed in heavy rainfall, meaning that nobody improved on their Wednesday qualifying times.
We caught up with Bill Binnie today (Friday) on the build up to the race. “We’ve had a faultless week so far. No complaints. The car has run like clockwork, and the team has done a fantastic job with preparation. Both Allen and Chris have also done fantastically well, and we are going into the race in good shape. We have a very good Kumho dry tire and a ‘good’ wet tire, and now we have an excellent wet setup. To be honest, I just want to get on with it now”.
He added “I maintain that this race is not about qualifying at all, though a decent start place does help a little. We have just that, with our 3rd in class qualifying and inside the top 20. It really won’t make too much difference come the start of the race. We will be working to a strategy, as will all the other teams, and our aim is to be there at the finish”.
Mechanic Martin Jarvis added “Today we’re installing the race engine and going through the car’s system to check everything is working correctly. We are all looking forward to the race now”.
This afternoon the drivers will be on-parade for the public masses, through the streets of Le Mans city on vintage French cars. Let’s hope it dries up for that!

Look ahead to Le Mans |
| |
This year 55 cars have been invited to start Le Mans, and we are no exception. Binnie Motorsports is aiming for a fourth consecutive podium with a Lola chassis. Already after returning from Valencia, work has begun preparing for the June 2 test weekend. With some trepidation, hopes are high. We have the advantage of knowing the car well, and the engine package, but development never stops at this level of racing. New for us this year at Le Mans will be Chris Buncombe. The young Englishman has already proved his worth to us, and has integrated himself into the Binnie Motorsports 'fold' very well. In fact, he took his first race win for us sharing our Lola T212 with Bill in the Classic Endurance Race at Valencia. Also new to us at Le Mans are the Kumho Tires. But, the Korean manufacturer, in 2 appearances at Le Mans have taken 2 podiums, and we have tested extensively with them, enough to know we will have as good a chance as anyone else going into the race next month.
Over the next few weeks we will be running a competition to win some rather special team merchandise and also we will keep you up to date with our progress before, during and after the test weekend, with the build up to the race week thereafter.

One of the major changes for the 2007 race is that the start has been brought forward to 15h00 because of the second round of the legislative elections. This modification will help facilitate the return journey of the hundreds of thousands of spectators who will have attended an exceptional race.
